So as many of you know, I’ve suffered with eczema since I was two years old. SEE POST: Living with Eczema. As a result of that, I know a lot about it. Or at least more than the average person.
I’ve tried everything from creams and ointments to taking oatmeal baths to eliminating certain foods and implementing others. My lifelong struggle with eczema was actually the catalyst for moving me towards a healthier lifestyle and seeking more natural options in every aspect of life. I literally react to EVERYTHING. (More recently, we have been exploring the option that my eczema may be related to an aluminum allergy triggered by vaccines from back when I was a toddler or younger! But more on that later.)
Regardless, if you or a loved one suffers from eczema, you know how frustrating it can be. And if you’re like me, you are on the never-ending search for a cure.
Well, I’ve got some good news for you! Emily Bartlett, L.Ac., the author of HolisticKid.com has released a new eBook that outlines her cure for eczema in four steps.
Action 1: Identify and avoid triggers
Action 2: Put out the fire
Action 3: Strengthen your defenses
Action 4: Heal your eczema with Real food
This informative eBook focuses on finding the CAUSE of eczema rather than just treating the symptoms. Frank’s current job involves working with data, analyzing it, digging through a zillion database tables, and more stuff with a bunch of numbers I don’t understand. But anyway, Frank’s got this saying that goes:
Garbage in. Garbage Out.
It’s common sense really. If you input bad data, your data won’t do anything of value. It’s the exact same with food, beauty products, and other toxic chemicals we’re exposed to everyday. If you put bad things in your body, it’s going to react in a negative way. In my case, and in the case of many others, our body reacts by creating the most annoying, itchy, burning and embarrassing rash ever!
The Eczema Cure is really a no-nosense, get down to business guide to evicting eczema once and for all.
Emily begins with explaining why eczema is not a quick fix, and why various medicines—while they can work in the short term—provide no solution for long-term benefits:
The common western treatments for eczema include: steroid creams, non-steroid petroleum based lotions, antihistamines, and anti-itch medicines. These medications work with varying degrees of success, but typically after a variable period of time, the eczema flares again – sometimes while the medications are still being used.
These treatments fail because stopping the rash does not resolve the reason why the rash is happening in the first place. Eczema (and in fact, most skin conditions) is a reflection of a deeper, internal imbalance typically originating from poor digestion. When a dermatologist gives you creams and medicines to make the skin clear, the internal issues are not addressed.
Using cortisone cream to fix eczema is a bit like painting a rickety house thatʼs about to fall down. It makes it look better, and you may feel better for a short period of time – but ultimately the underlying issues must be addressed.
The best part about The Eczema Cure is that it’s easy to absorb. All of Emily’s points are clearly outlined in a way that makes the information accessible to the reader and allows for the individual to find a path that works for them. She provides rich resources and information in order for you to make informed decisions and be an active participant in your own journey to recovery. …Which I personally think is important for long-term change.
In The Eczema Cure, Emily also addresses the issue of newborns born with eczema or who develop eczema shortly after birth. I think that this chapter in particular is extremely valuable in explaining why a healthy gut flora is important to establish RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. Being a doula, I cannot emphasize this enough. A baby’s gut flora is his or her first defense against the world, since around 80% of the immune system is located in the gut. In The Eczema Cure, Emily also shares her daughter’s own journey with overcoming eczema.
If you or a loved one are suffering from eczema, I highly recommend reading this book to finding a natural long-term cure.
