Frank and I are moving in less than a month, so I’m trying my best to use up all our food so we don’t have to pack it or throw it away.
What a challenge to combine all the things you have on-hand into a meal! :) Good thing I love challenges.
Dinner tonight was actually pretty easy to think of. We had ground venison in the freezer that needed eating, frozen peppers from summer, a ton of tomatoes that we canned from summer, and I always have onions, garlic, and spices on hand.
These sloppy joes aren’t the same as your traditional joes from a can or joes that use ketchup. (It’s better.) This is the real food version with a little bit of Courtney oomph. What that means, is I kicked it up a notch by adding extra stuff because I just can’t help myself. ;) I like adding a little of this, a dash of that, another TBSP of this. Hehe. Enjoy!
Crock pot sloppy joes
Ingredients:
In a large cast iron skillet, brown the venison or beef in butter. Then, using a slotted spoon, scoop it into the crock pot. Mince the onion, peppers, and garlic, then add to the crock pot. Add all the other ingredients to the crock pot. Stir. Then, cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 6-10 hours.
Serve on toast or toasted buns with a side of sauerkraut.
Made this tonight & served it over Grain Free Jalapeño Bacon Bread. Absolutely delicious. My picky eater even gobbled it down although hers was over GF Corn Bread. Thanks for the awesome comforting recipe.
I was a guest that night and the sloppy joe’s were simply yummy! It was the venison version and very tasty. Thanks for dinner Courtney :)
Glad you could stay for a bit. :)
