I got to stay with Hannah and her boyfriend Victor in their apartment in San Francisco for two days and one night. I left “early” because it was their anniversary, and I didn’t want to be in their way! Happy 4 year anniversary you guys! :)
When I arrived on Hannah’s doorstep in San Francisco, I was happy to find ample parking on the street. Whew. I was seriously nervous to have to parallel park with traffic around! So glad she was in a quieter part of the city.
I had no idea what to expect when I knocked on Hannah’s door. Unlike Cara, I had never met Hannah in person! We didn’t know what to say to each other for like…3 minutes. But then I noticed all the guitars!
“Do you play or sing?” I asked. Turns out, she does! She has a channel on Soundcloud with some of the songs she’s written. Click HERE to check them out! She recorded them all on just her laptop, but I think they could be really great if they were professionally recorded! I especially like the melody and harmonies she’s got going on in “Woah” and the words in “Into the Water” have been stuck in my head for a day now. I definitely want to learn that one.
Pretty much as soon as I got there, we left for the grocery store to get food to make for the potluck Hannah organized with other bloggers in the San Francisco area! Here’s a pic of me cooking Punjabi Cabbage and Parippu Lentils in Hannah’s kitchen.
Hannah made this GORGEOUS quiche. And it was seriously most delicious quiche I’ve ever tasted. I’m not really a quiche person, but this was addicting. I ate more of it for breakfast the next day. I’m on her to post the recipe on her blog! ;) UPDATE: HERE IS THE QUICHE RECIPE!!
Here’s a picture of all of us at the potluck. From left to right: Robin from Kids Love Accupuncture, Caitlin from Grassfed Girl, Sandrine from Nourishing Our Children, Me!, and Hannah!
Caitlin was so generous to bring the lamb and gravy. Can you say YUM? And Robin brought that delicious looking salad with some type of orange on top. Sandrine hosted at her loft in SF.
The following day, Hannah asked me if I wanted to tour the city, but I was dog-gone tired, and Hannah’s an introvert (like me!) so we opted to stay in and watched four episodes of Parks & Recreation instead!
[box class=”info”]Q. How can you tell an introvert from an extrovert?
A. An introvert recharges alone, and an extrovert recharges around other people. It’s not about how sociable someone is. It’s about where they recoup their energy.[/box]
And then we sang some (very unpracticed) songs together.
Oh! And we ate some yummy yummy salad, with avocado and feta cheese and purple sauerkraut that Hannah made. :)
I’m really glad I got to meet Hannah, but sad I only got to spend a day there. It would have been fun to stay longer! Definitely check out her page, and read the questionnaire below. She’s such a cool person!
Questionnaire
Blog Name: Healy Real Food Vegetarian
Blog Author: Hannah Healy (Facebook)
Location:
San Francisco, CA
How long have you been blogging?
Not very long! I just started Healy Real Food Vegetarian a few months ago, but I love it and am totally addicted to it!
What topics do you blog about?
The majority of my posts are real food recipes using whole, unprocessed ingredients. Occasionally I’ll write about health topics, tutorials (how to season a cast iron skillet, how to sprout lentils) or things related to cooking, health or food politics.
Describe your family for us.
I live in San Francisco, CA with my wonderful boyfriend Victor and my jack russel terrier doggy named Lentil. I’m originally from San Diego and was raised by an entrepreneurial family who valued natural health.
It all started with my Grandpa John Healy who had trouble finding a store that offered quality natural foods, so he became one of the first to open a natural foods store of its kind in San Diego called Green Tree Grocers. My mother Paula Tipton-Healy is a retired Midwife. She and my sister Willow are currently homeopathic practitioners. My aunt Jane Healy roasts organic, fair trade coffee in West Marin, CA called Coast Roast Coffee. My other aunt Evan Healy has a line of all-natural skin care products. My sister Micaela brews beer in San Francisco and is hoping to expand her company Gone Boating Brewing. Needless to say, I come from an innovative bunch!
What hobbies do you enjoy?
I love to cook, bake and experiment in the kitchen. So, naturally blogging all about that is a big hobby of mine.
I also like to play and write music. I play guitar and sing. I used to play with a band called Mama Lion, but lately I’ve just been playing with friends here and there.
Travelling is another passion of mine. I’d love it if my next trip was to South America!
If it was your last day on earth, what would you want to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Junk food totally counts!
If it was my last day on earth I would want to spend the day eating with family and friends. When I recall my most cherished memories I think about thanksgiving, which my family always spends at my Aunt Jane’s homestead in Tomales, CA surrounded by the rolling green hills of Marin. When we aren’t actually sitting down for thanksgiving dinner we always have a variety of foods on the table and a big pot of black tea with cream that everyone enjoys throughout the day between chatting, making music, taking walks and playing with the dogs.
I’m a snacker, so I would want there to be a variety of delicious foods available all day. Some food that would have to be present at this table would be lots of cheeses, avocado, veggies (steamed broccoli, brussel sprouts, asparagus), freshly baked bread (especially sourdough and rye), eggs (maybe a quiche too). Of course, we can’t forget the sweets! Chocolate, fruits, baked goods and raw milk to dip the cookies into!
I’m getting hungry now just thinking about all of this :)
What three posts on your blog do you want to share with my readers?
Date Sweetened Brownies – These are so delicious and suitable for almost any diet.
Food Processor Giveaway – I use my food processor for almost every recipe, so I’m hosting a giveaway!
Savory Sweet Potato Pie
How/why did you start blogging?
I’ve enjoyed many of the current real food blogs for years and read them in my spare time. I figured that since I love these blogs and cooking I should start my own blog. I initially intended to just update it once a week, but I’ve gotten so into it that I post more often and find myself thinking up new recipes all the time.
What’s the biggest challenge about running a blog?
I think the biggest challenge is having enough time to do everything. I keep a list of things I want to do for my blog, but the list keeps growing and I rarely have time to make a dent in the list. I think it’s important to manage your time wisely as a blogger (which I still haven’t mastered). It doesn’t help that I’m a procrastinator.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I enjoy the community of real food bloggers. I get so much inspiration and support from them. I’m always learning new things about food, health and the environment from other bloggers and feel that my life has been improved because of it.
Do you have any eBooks or classes that readers might be interested in?
I haven’t gotten that far yet, but I would love to write an ebook. I’m open to suggestions!
