What exactly is a butter burger? A butter burger is just my take on a regular cheeseburger, but with a toasted butter-soaked bun. Yum.
One of my favorite ways to eat toast is to pan fry on both sides in a ton of pastured butter. So much butter that it’s just totally saturated, dripping with butter. OMG SO GOOD. So I took this concept and applied it to cheeseburgers. The only difference is I only fry one side with butter instead of both.
Making the burger
1 lb grassfed ground beef (buy here)
2 eggs, preferably pastured organic
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp sea salt
Red pepper flakes to taste
1 medium onion, caramelized in butter
Optional: bread crumbs
In a medium bowl, knead all ingredients into room-temperature ground beef with clean hands. Form into 5-6 balls. If you have a grill, lucky you! I don’t, so I use my cast iron skillet. I heat up the skillet to medium-high and then press the balls into patties on the hot surface. I typically will sear them on medium-high heat for 1 minute, then turn the heat down to medium and cook it a little more slowly before flipping. When it’s cooked a little past halfway through, I’ll flip the burgers, put cheese on top, and cover with a lid until the cheese is melted. By then, the burger is cooked through and just right!
Don’t forget to fry the inside parts of your bun in plenty of butter in an adjacent skillet. It truly makes the burger experience spectacular! :)
Ohhhh my goodness. Why have I never done this? Thanks so much for this tip. :)
It’s the simple things in life! ;)
